The Value of a Prayer

Saying a prayer is like making a telephone call to God; it can be a source of strength, comfort, and inspiration, but it can also be a depressor and leave you feeling wretched, it all depends on the focus of the call.
When you pray is it a prayer of praise and gratitude or is it a poor me prayer? Is it one where you concentrate on the good or the bad? Is it one of asking for things you want like you would ask Santa?
Why is it that the people who shun beggars in the street, don't hesitate to become beggars before God? To them, prayer is not about a discussion with God, but making demands on God. We all know how we feel when someone demands something from us.
Praying is not about asking for a solution and waiting for God to do the footwork. Praying is about asking for guidance while we ourselves work towards attaining what we need.
There is no point in having a one way conversation with God, you need to listen to what he is saying. To tune into the world around you and do what you believe is right, because it is through your soul that God talks to you. He lives inside us and if you are in tune with your inner being you will be in tune with what God is saying to you.
It is all very well praising God with our words in prayer but those prayers are empty unless we act on them. If we request something in prayer what are we doing to help God to make it happen for us?
Miracles can happen if we let them. Let our actions become our prayers. Praying by offering someone a helping hand is far better than praying on bended knee and doing nothing thereafter.
Prayer and coming together with our God is an important way of focusing on what life is offering us and the perils we face. It is a way of thinking ahead,
grounding ourselves and bringing peace and harmony
into our lives and the lives of others.
